Mopidevi Temple in Andhra Pradesh is famous for Sarpa Dosha Nivarana Puja and Rahu Ketu Puja in South India.

Swayambhu Lord Subrahmanyeswara Swamy is the presiding deity of Mopidevi temple in the form of Shiva Lingam.

The temple is present in Mopidevi village, Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh State and is best known among the devotees for Kala Sarpa Dosha Nivarana Puja.

Official language spoken here is Telugu.

Mopidevi Temple - Sri Subrahmanyeswara Swamy Temple


Lord Subrahmanyeswar Swamy popularly known as Murugan, Kartikeya, Murugan, Skanda and Subrahmanyam Swamy is a Hindu war God. He is the son of Lord Shiva and mother Goddess Parvathi and is Commander-in-Chief of Devas.

Mopidevi temple is at a distance of around 7 km from Avanigadda, 30 km from Machilipatnam, 70 km from Vijayawada and 77 km from Guntur city.

Brief Temple History:


According to the Sthala Purana, Lord Subrahmanyeswara Swamy is in Swayambhu (self-manifested) Linga form at Mopidevi temple.


According to some local legends, Veeravarapu Parvathalu is a great devotee of Lord Karthikeya Swamy and is a pot maker by profession. Lord Subrahmanyeswara Swamy was once pleased with his ardent devotion appeared in his dream and guided him to dig at the nearby anthill to uncover the Lingam.

Immediately, Pavathalu informed about his dream and took the help of villages to go to the place indicated by Lord Subrahmanyeswara Swamy in the dream.

They started to dig up the anthill and to their surprise, found the Swayambhu Lingam in the anthill. Later, Parvathalu added some more baked clay idols of great Rishis, Nandi, Garuda Horse, Cock and began to worship Swayambhu Lord Subrahmanyeswara Swamy.

Lord Subramanyeswara is the principle deity of the royal family Challapalli and are currently taking care of the temple.

Swayambhu Sri Sakaleswara Swamy Temple (Lord Shiva) is located just beside this temple. King Sagara who is the Grandfather of Lord Rama, worshipped this Lingam.

The Lingam was discovered in the year 1783, when floods washed Mopidevi village. A temple was constructed for the Lingam by the local landlord Adusumilli Gangubhotlu.

Another interesting fact about this temple is that the depth of Lingam is still unknown.

NH 214A passes through the Mopidevi village and APSRTC run frequent buses connecting nearby towns and cities. The temple is present on Vijayawada to Avanigadda road route and many local buses ply through this route.

By Flight:

Gannavaram Airport (VGA) in Vijayawada is the nearest airport from Mopidevi temple.

By Train:

Repalle Railway Station (RAL) is the nearby railway station at a distance of around 12 km from Mopidevi temple. Other nearby stations are Tenali Junction (TEL), Guntur Junction (GNT) and Vijayawada Junction (BZA). Share Autos are available from Repalle railway station to Mopidevi temple.
