According to the Mythology, in the very distant past mountains were blessed with wings and they were travelling from one place to another freely.

Once the Malayagiri Mountain was travelling from Kanyakumari to Himalayas, its four wings fell at different locations on the earth, namely Vedagiri, Yadagiri, Mangalagiri and Nandagiri respectively.
