Ramappa Temple is just 77 km away from Warangal city [former Orugallu City].


This temple is a 800 years old architecture marvel and the superb artistry of the Kakatiya regime craftsmanship.

Warangal Ramappa Temple is at a distance of 208 km from Hyderabad. This ancient temple has got its name from the famous sculpture Ramappa who built it.

Ramappa Temple History:


Ramappa temple is known for its stunning elaborated carvings and from the inscriptions it was said to be constructed by Recharla Rudra, commander-in-chief of Kakatiya king Ganapati Deva.

Recharla Rudra has built and supervised the construction of famous Ramappa Lake in 1156 A.D. and Ramappa Temple in 1213 A.D.

Both, these attractions were intact even for today and speaks about the greatness of Kakatiya Dynasty architecture. The temple actually depicts South Indian style architecture.

According to the history, it took 40 years to built this stunning temple. There are two small Shiva Lingas present on either side of the main temple.

Ramappa Temple Attractions:


The sand stone built temple of Ramalingeswara Swamy consists of a Garbha gruha, the innermost sanctum where resides the main murti [primary deity], an antarla and a maha mandapa [Great Hall] with three entrances of which the main entrance faces east.

The main Linga of this temple is made from black basalt. Inside Garbha gruha one can find many stunning sculptures depicting important scenes from Sanskrit epic Ramayana, Shiva Purana and many other mythological narratives.

The sculptures carved on the beams depicts many historic stories including Daksha Samharam, Ksheera sagara mathanam, Tripurasura Samharam, Narakasura-Vadha and Gajasurasamhara.

Another attraction of this ancient temple is of a beautiful Nandi facing the shrine of Lord Shiva.

The bricks used for the construction of Ramappa temple feels light-weight and will float in the water.

There is an amazing flute carving at the entrance which when hit makes a melodious "sa ri ga ma" sound.

The main temple is covered in five acres of land and the surrounding twenty acres is used for the Garden and decoration to attract the tourists.

The temple is built using the red sand stone while black granite is used for carving the beautiful statues on connecting roofs and walls.

By Bus:

Ramappa Temple can be easily reached on road from Hanamakonda, Warangal and Hyderabad. TSRTC runs frequent buses on this route.

By Train:

Ramappa Temple has no direct Railway Station. The nearest station are located at Hanamakonda and Warangal.

From there, pilgrims can easily reach Ramalingeswara temple by buses and other vehicles.

By Flight:

The nearest airport from Ramappa Gudi is located at Hyderabad - Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

From there, tourists can use road or rail network to reach the temple very easily.

UNESCO members will be visiting again soon to see the progress of Ramappa temple to award the world heritage tag to it.
